There finally seems to be some movement on Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara. The socio-fantasy film has been stuck in a long wait, with its release plans changing more than once, but the latest industry reports suggest that one of the major issues around the film has now been sorted out. The digital deal is reportedly locked, and the makers are once again looking at a theatrical release, this time during the Sankranti season.
Amazon Prime Video Gets the OTT Rights
There had been quite a bit of talk about who would pick up the digital rights of Vishwambhara. Sony LIV was also reportedly in the race at one point, but the latest update is that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the film’s global streaming rights for a big amount. Getting the OTT deal out of the way is an important step for a film of this scale, especially after the release plans had remained uncertain for so long.
Sankranti 2027 Is Now the Target
With the digital business reportedly settled, the team is said to be aiming for a Sankranti release next year. According to the latest report by NTV Telugu, the makers are looking at January 13, 2027 as the release date for Vishwambhara. Nothing has been officially announced yet, though, so the exact date will have to wait for confirmation from the team.
A Sankranti release would obviously be a big deal for the film. It’s one of the busiest periods on the Telugu cinema calendar, and a Chiranjeevi film arriving during the festival season would naturally come with plenty of attention.
Why Has Vishwambhara Taken So Long?
Vishwambhara has gone through several delays since it was announced. The shooting itself moved forward, but the film’s extensive VFX and CGI work needed a lot of time in post-production. At the same time, the digital and satellite deals were still being worked out, which meant there was no reason for the makers to rush into announcing a final release date.
Chiranjeevi also moved ahead with other projects while Vishwambhara continued through its long post-production process. Now, with the latest update on the OTT rights, things appear to be moving again. Whether the Sankranti plan finally sticks will become clearer once the makers make an official announcement.
Chiranjeevi Leads a Big Team
Directed by Mallidi Vassishta, who made his mark with Bimbisara, Vishwambhara is being produced on a large scale by UV Creations. Chiranjeevi plays the lead, with Trisha Krishnan as the female lead. The film also has an important musical advantage in M.M. Keeravani, who is composing the music.
If Vishwambhara does arrive on January 13, 2027, it will be entering one of the most important theatrical windows of the year. After all the delays and waiting around the film, a Sankranti release would give Chiranjeevi’s socio-fantasy adventure the kind of festival launch the makers have clearly been aiming for.
