Avengers: Doomsday seems headed for the all-too-familiar pattern of having its next teaser leak before its release, giving fans another sneak peek at the movie. And this time around its a new alliance that seems almost as unlikely as it gets

The next teaser is expected to bring Wakanda back to the table. This time round, the images include Shuri as the new Black Panther, flanked by M’Baku, the new king of Wakanda, Namora and Namor – and their conversations have got an air of impending epic battle about them. The reason for this, apparently, is the threat of Doctor Doom. Watching the teaser, you see Shuri raking over past losses – a clear nod to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After that, we cut to Namor and we get the jaw-dropping line: “A king has a duty to prepare his people for the afterlife; I have mine.” He says this and we’re left in no doubt that a war is looming.

And just as things are getting intense, we get a moment of unexpected levity when Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, walks onto the scene, and for the first time, we see him fully kitted out in his full costume. This is where things get really interesting – we get M’Baku introducing himself to the Fantastic Four’s Ben Grimm, solemnly as “King M’Baku of Wakanda.” And the Fantastic Four’s response is hilarious – “Ben, Yancy Street, between Broome and Grand” – That whole exchange in itself is enough to make your jaw drop. And the teaser ends with a clear warning: The Wakandans and the Fantastic Four will be back in Avengers: Doomsday.

So what we have then is a teaser that is dark and disturbing, and clearly geared towards preparing us all for a massive showdown. Shuri’s words and the whole meeting between the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four just scream to us that something huge is about to hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When the official release does happen (rumoured to be sometime next week), we’ll all have a million more questions. Where does the meeting between M’Baku and the Thing take place? Is Ben Grimm on his own, or has the rest of the Fantastic Four tagged along? And most important of all – how did they even get into the main MCU universe in the first place? And all point towards one man – Doctor Doom, played by the always brilliant Robert Downey Jr.

It’s also worth remembering that another recent clue, the Thunderbolts, had a little hint that the Fantastic Four were on their way to the Earth-616 universe, showing a spaceship with their logo emblazoned on the side. We also had another clue from the ending of Fantastic Four: First Class – that Doctor Doom had gotten his hands on Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.

And it’s not even a week yet since the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday dropped – and with the X-Men back in style, this new leak really does have us guessing what’s going to happen next. Many of us were expecting the fourth teaser to be all about Doom, but Marvel seems to be having a few tricks hidden up its sleeve, so there’s a whole lot more to look forward to. For now, we just have to wait for the official trailer – but it’s going to be a wild ride.
