With the much hyped release of the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, we get to see the return of the Fox-era X-Men and the anticipation for the MCU’s next big crossover event from directors Anthony and Joe Russo grows ever stronger.
According to the usually reliable insider My Time To Shine Hello, who’s got a track record of dishing out spoilers for the likes of Deadpool & Wolverine and James Gunn’s Superman – “in Avengers: Doomsday, Victor Von Doom is going to go to the Fantastic Four for help trying to figure out the whole Incursion thing. And to be honest, he’s got a pretty good chance of convincing them to hop on his spaceship with him and head off to warn people in the MCU. Then Doom and the Fantastic Four will get together to go tackle the X-Men Universe, which apparently is where the next Incursion is most likely to happen.”
They add, ” they need to get a handle on this whole thing before the X-Men Universe goes and destroys the other one.”
So here’s the lowdown: we’ve heard a few other rumors floating around that suggest Doom is going to be the good guy in Avengers: Doomsday, at least initially… or at least he’ll pretend to be. He’ll present himself as a useful ally for the heroes, trying to save the Multiverse without anyone suspecting his real intentions, which are more than likely to see him take control of the Multiverse and become the supreme ruler.
The implication of this latest leak seems to be that Doom has history with the Fantastic Four and has figured out a way to get them onside in his plan to prevent their world from getting destroyed in the next Incursion. And we’ve all been wondering what happened to Doctor Doom since the mid-credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Class, when he’s kneeling before a young Franklin Richards handing over his mask… it looks like we’re going to find out soon – at least, at first Doom will be pretending to be a hero and will be an ally of the Fantastic Four.
It’s no surprise, therefore, that the heroes will be jetting off to the X-Men Universe (and, presumably, Earth-616 as hinted at in that Thunderbolts post-credits scene) – a reality we reckon the Avengers will also end up visiting when they finally manage to track down Monica Rambeau (who got left stranded there at the end of The Marvels). We still don’t know loads about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday and it’s a bit of a jigsaw at the moment – but this leak might go a long way to explaining why we keep seeing references to Latveria in Fantastic Four: First Class.
As for why Doom wants to take the Fantastic Four and pit them against the X-Men, well, it’s probably just part of his plan to save the Multiverse – only with him in charge, rather than anyone else. And this isn’t a new idea – in fact, we’d previously heard that Doom plans to use magic to control a fleet of Sentinels that will come after the mutants in Avengers: Doomsday, as there was a glimpse of this in the new trailer.
Avengers: Doomsday is out on December 18, 2026
