The actresses Emma Stone & Jennifer Lawrence have been racking up awards for over a decade now, you could say, but up till this point, they haven’t really been in each other’s sights when it comes to all the awards season fuss. This time round though its different – they’re up against each other in the running for ‘Bugonia‘ & ‘Die My Love‘ respectively – with Golden Globes nod for Best Actress for Stone ( for a comedy role in Yorgos Lánthimos’s satire) & Lawrence ( in a serious role for Lynne Ramsay’s film), and lets be honest the writing was on the wall – only Stone got a SAG Award nomination.
Josh Horowitz – who hosts this podcast- had the chance to chat to Jennifer and got a suitably amused response out of her: ” We’re in this group chat, and today she got the SAG nomination and I didn’t. So I just popped ‘ WHAT?! ‘ in the chat. And then all her other friends chimed in with ‘ Congrats Emma!’ and I just sent a sad face .”
Jennifer Lawrence + Emma Stone fight for the spotlight
The actress who won an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook had her usual sense of humour when chatting with Josh: ” Every time she tries to say something, all I’m thinking is ‘ why don’t you just apologise for all the years of runnin this ‘ … I mean she’s been thwarting me for years, but it means a lot…” The fact they’re such close mates is a big part of what’s been fun to watch over the years – they regularly hang out & have each other’s backs, even to a point where they’re teaming up to produce a Muppets spin-off film featuring Miss Piggy, even tho they haven’t even worked together yet
It’s not the first time Lawrence has come off second best to Emma Stone – after all its Emma who took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actress for Poor Things, while Lawrence was right there in the running for No Hard Feelings – a moment that went right viral.
